Federal opposition leader Peter Dutton has pledged more funding to build the Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass, with one element of that being a Sturt Highway bypass of Truro.
In SA this week, Dutton pledged $840M for the project would see the state government only need to contribute 20% to complete the project.
Last week Labor announced they would fund $525M for the project, however this would see 50% more needed from the state, which until now has seen no commitments made.
The overall project aims to see heavy vehicles turn off the South Eastern Freeway at Murray Bridge to then link up to the Sturt Highway at Annandale, to then provide an easier path to the vast majority of freight depots and terminals.
Local travellers use the Sturt Highway as the major link from Adelaide to the Riverland, with increasing numbers of heavy vehicles using the stretch of road in recent years.
Local MP Tony Pasin continues to push for the project to go ahead, which did at one stage have funding allocated prior to a Labor spending review saw the Truro bypass element scrapped.
