Submissions are now being called for a Murray-Darling Basin Plan implementation review – being undertaken by the productivity commission.
So far, just 4.5G/L of water has been returned to the river system from the 450G/L outlined under the plan.
The state government say this is due to unwillingness of upstream states to fulfil their water saving obligations.
State labor remain committed to achieving this target, with deputy Premier Susan Close saying ‘The recovery of the full 450GL of additional water for the environment is a priority for the government – and there is a long way to go to get there.’
