Victoria police sack bullying officers

A zero tolerance approach to bullying in Victoria Police has resulted in some members being sacked or forced to quit as their predatory behaviour is exposed.

It comes 18 months after a report by the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission found a high prevalence of sexual predatory behaviour in Victoria's police force.

Victoria's acting Deputy Commissioner Wendy Steedam says some police officers are being sacked or are resigning prior to any formal investigation into their behaviour.

"We have seen an increase in reporting to us of incidents" Ms Steedam told ABC radio.

VEOHRC executive director Catherine Dixon said the first audit into how Victoria Police are dealing with those bullies will be released in August this year.

"We heard devastating stories of harassment and bullying, particularly of women working in the police" Ms Dixon said in a statement to AAP.

The report commissioned by Victoria Police identified inappropriate behaviour and detrimental actions towards some women within the state's police force.
